The GBP Blog!!

Welcome to the first blog post on Graham Brown Percussion. I'm hoping to use this spot to talk about things I'm getting up to, news in the Pipe Band world, instructional tidbits, and really anything that catches my fancy.

The biggest news of the past week was undoubtedly the release of the 2014 World Pipe Band Championships draw. The full draw can be found here, while the Grade 1 qualifier draw looks like this

Shotts and Dykehead have drawn 2nd on, and while others may prefer a late draw, in my old age of 32, I'm finding I'm preferring playing earlier on in the day. Also note, "early" here only means 11:10 am, which is much more manageable than in the past, when 2nd on in a qualifier may have meant 9:10, and warming up from 7:30. This is possible because of the decision to have the Grade 1 qualifier on it's own day, this year Friday August 15th. I really like this decision by the RSPBA, and persoanlly have thought for years that the Grade 1 qualifier would be perfect on the Friday.

I head back to Scotland on Friday, and am really looking forward to the Scottish Championships and the last few weeks build up to the Worlds. The previous 3 majors have seen Shotts's results go 7, 6, 5, and I'm very excited to try and keep building on that momentum.

So, who's going through to the Worlds Final? Fancy any upsets? Comments are now open :)
